Ascorbyl Glucoside Solution 12%
A lightweight water-based vitamin C derivative serum that helps brighten skin and improve the look of uneven tone with less irritation potential than direct vitamin C.
A strong vitamin C beginner option for people who want tone-evening and glow support without the intensity of harsher direct vitamin C formulas.
The Ordinary's L-ascorbic acid serums (Vitamin C Suspension) are notoriously gritty and difficult to use. The Ascorbyl Glucoside Solution 12% is the elegant alternative — a simple, elegant, stable vitamin C that works every day without drama. At 12%, the concentration is meaningful, the formula is clean, and the daily experience is frictionless.
Morning — after cleansing, before moisturizer and SPF. The antioxidant protection is most relevant during daylight hours. Can also be used evening, but morning is the primary use case.
People who abandoned vitamin C after a bad experience with oxidized serums or stinging formulas. Anyone building a clean morning antioxidant routine. Vitamin C beginners who want to start with the most practical, lowest-friction format.
If compared to an aggressive L-ascorbic acid serum for speed of brightening. The stability advantage means slower release — expect 6–12 weeks for visible tone changes, not 2. Consistent daily use is the key, not high concentration.
Very safe to continue — no significant irritation profile, no photosensitivity, broad pH tolerance. It can stay in the routine during minor skin stress without making things worse.
- SPF 30+ on top — the ascorbyl glucoside + SPF pairing is one of the most effective antioxidant-UV protection combinations
- Niacinamide serum underneath for a complementary brightening approach (no interaction issue at this vitamin C derivative)
- Multi-Antioxidant Radiance Serum on alternating days for a more comprehensive antioxidant approach
Best For
- Dull skin
- Uneven tone
- Antioxidant support
- Smoother-looking skin
- Beginner vitamin C routines
How to Use
Apply after cleansing and before moisturizer, typically in the morning for antioxidant protection. Allow to absorb before applying SPF.
Key Ingredients
Ascorbyl glucoside delivers antioxidant protection and gradually brightens skin through tyrosinase inhibition (blocking melanin production). It provides sustained vitamin C activity from a stable, non-irritating, pH-flexible form that layers well with other actives.

About This Product
The Ordinary Ascorbyl Glucoside Solution 12% delivers ascorbyl glucoside — a stable vitamin C derivative where L-ascorbic acid is bonded to glucose — at a 12% concentration in a lightweight aqueous serum base. Ascorbyl glucoside solves the two main problems with direct vitamin C (L-ascorbic acid) formulas: it doesn't oxidize to an orange colour on contact with air, and it doesn't require a very low pH to work. The glucose bond is cleaved by skin enzymes to release free ascorbic acid gradually, delivering antioxidant protection and tyrosinase inhibition (melanin production blocking) without the stinging and storage sensitivity of traditional vitamin C serums.
